November 2004

Just added a facility to allow you to comment on individual pages. Just the Places and Strolls at present, but I will extend this to some of the other pages in due course.

There are new pages on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, the West Highland Line and Ham House.

Started working on Northumbria. There is now an Introduction and Gazetteer page, together with pages on Warkworth Castle and Hermitage, Harbottle Castle and the Beamish Open Air Museum.

October 2004

Finally got around to processing the Northumbria pics. All a bit gray and damp (apart from Hadrian's Wall and Durham). Still that's a good excuse to go back!

Caught up with the rest of the backlog now. Some lovely photos of the Great Dorset Steam Fair, and some shots of Ashdown Forest and the Clayton Windmills in Sussex.

I've also added a gallery of photos of Lymington in Hampshire, and some short articles on Treasures of the Earth and Castle Tioram in the Highlands and Islands, and various places in Sussex and Gwynedd (including the Padarn Country Park).

September 2004

Thanks to an excellent book, Apache, MySQL, and PHP Weekend Crash Course, by a chap called Steven M Schafer, the rewrite of the site was much less painful that I expected. Can't recommend it too highly.

Started working my way through the Northumbria stuff; should be available early next month.

August 2004

Spent a very wet week in Northumbria and another back home drying out, so not much new this month. There are articles on:

As you will have noticed, loading the data is taking far too long, so I'm trying to get my head around PHP and MySQL. That way I can move most of the bulk of the processing to the server, which should speed up the site no end.

It may be a while before I get to post any new stuff though.

July 2004
(Part 2)

Finished scanning! Mostly photos of Dartmouth in Devon, and a few of the London Eye

Bit of a backlog on the new photos which I've now cleared. All Dorset stuff:

I'll be concentrating now on updating the External Links, the Subject Area menus, and developing a new range of occasion specific cards and other gifts, before getting back to adding articles (other than for the new photos, that is).

June 2004
(Part 1)

Nearly scanned all my negatives, thank goodness. New for this month are galleries for:

Also new is a section on the Highlands of Scotland. Just galleries at the moment.

June 2004
(Part 2)

For the second-half of this month, I've added a couple of new pages to the Cornwall section on Cape Cornwall and Geevor Tin Mine, and new galleries for the areas around Botallack Mine, Porthcurno, Mousehole and Lanyon Quoit

I've added two new sections covering Gwynedd and Anglesey (with pages on the Llanberis Lake Railway and the Ffestiniog Railway) and a new section covering Cumbria and the Lake District with an introduction and pages on Windermere Steamboats and Dovedale, together with a number of galleries.

I've also added three new Dorset Walks:

June 2004
(Part 1)

New for this month are general introductory pages for:

There are also some shots of the Monmouthshire and Brecon and Macclesfield Canals, together with a new gallery for Somerset.

There is now a new section on Derbyshire with pages for the National Tramway museum at Crich and the Castleton Caverns, together with a general page.

May 2004
(Part 2)

New for the second half of the month are:

May 2004
(Part 1)

Work on scanning my negatives is proceeding apace, although most of the recent stuff is scattered across the existing galleries. I've added a new Cornwall Curiosities page with brief details of some interesting sites not covered elsewhere. There are also new pages on:

Together with:

April 2004

Finally finished the back office stuff, and have started to add some new content to the site. There is a new page on Steamer Point and updated ones for Ashlett Creek, Bucklers Hard, Stagbury Hill and Howen Bushes. I've also added a new gallery for Linford Bottom

I've made a start on scanning my old negatives; they are mostly of Yorkshire and a few of Cornwall. Hope you enjoy.

March 2004

The Amsterdam photos are now up. I've finished rewriting the site to link it to a database, but can't put it live, just yet, due to an unforeseen problem. I'll be concentrating on scanning in some of my old negatives until the matter can be resolved
