New this month:
I've also been playing around with the Google Maps API and you can now enlarge the location maps on each place and take a closer look round. I've also used it on some of the menus to provide a more detailed view of an area. There is now an extended and updated version of what was the Howen Bushes Stroll in the New Forest. I've also renamed it to the Eyeworth Pond Stroll. Now all I've got to do is find the Boxer Tree There are new galleries for:
And new gazetteer entries for:
I've also added some really great new photos to the Fontmell and Melbury Gallery. The combination of the autumn colours and the evening light was quite stunning. |
| October 2005 |
Started to write some new articles to go with the photos I took back in the summer. So far this month I've done:
All, of course in Shropshire. I've also finally finished off one of my favourite walks around Church Ope Cove and Penn's Weare on Portland in Dorset, and done a short piece on Montacute House in Somerset. Hurst and Calshot Castles in Hampshire now have their own pages with a few brief comments on each, as do Fiddleford Manor and the Blue Pool in Dorset. |
| September 2005 | The new Dorset and Hampshire stuff is now online. In Dorset there are now new galleries for: and walk and some new photos of Tout Quarry on Portland. I've also finally finished off the Spetisbury Rings and Chalbury walks, and they are now both live. Over in Hampshire and the New Forest there are two new Galleries for: |
| August 2005 |
Spent a week up in Shropshire, mainly visiting the many museums in and around the Ironbridge Gorge, but also taking in the Long Mynd, Much Wenlock and the Severn Valley Railway. I'll get around to writing some articles in due course, but in the meantime, you can take a look at the photos here. Lots more Dorset and Hampshire stuff on its way as well, along with Montacute House in Somerset. |
| July 2005 |
Following the terrible events in London, my thoughts, and those of all connected with this site, are with the victims of the atrocities and their relatives. Let us hope that it is not long before all those who were responsible are brought to justice. |
| June 2005 |
Not much new this month, largely because I'm up to my limit on web space so getting any new photos on to the site means weeding out some old ones. Never an easy task. Thus far, there is an article on Prideaux Place in Cornwall and some photos of Ashover in Derbyshire. This site is proud to wear its MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY white band. Please do all you can to support this excellent cause. |
| May 2005 |
Getting the workshops open for the start of the month has been a bit of a rush, particularly as the project has grown to take over the whole site. Hope you like the new look. There is still plenty more to do. The Art of Retouching Exhibition only has a few temporary exhibits and there is nothing to speak of in the Experimental Galleries, but they will have to wait until I've finished tidying up. Meanwhile, there are a few new bits in North and West Dorset:
|
| April 2005 |
Popped down to Sussex for a quick look round the Amberley Working Museum. Very Enjoyable. As a result of seeing all those craftsmen at work, I've decided to open up my workshops to the public. Not a lot to see down there as yet, but your welcome to look round. Also new is an article on Lindisfarne in Northumbria. |
| March 2005 | With the better weather, I've managed to get out and take a few photos, and can now present another in our occasional series of obscure Dorset churches. And they don't come much more obscure than St Mary's, Tarrant Crawford, but its very remoteness provides a nice excuse for a walk. Also new are some gazetteer entries for:
And a new gallery of photos of Spetisbury Rings in Dorset. |
| February 2005 | Not much new this month as I have had my head firmly under the bonnet giving the code a thorough spring-clean. This was prompted in part by the release of Mozilla Firefox. Since it's release in November last year, Firefox has grown to the point that it now accounts for over 25% of all web site hits. I can't wholeheartedly recommend it, as there appears to be a cookie handling problem that sometimes causes PhotoBox's Shopping Basket to fail. That said, Internet Explorer is looking distinctly elderly (repeat after me ten times : "Not allowing Microsoft to bundle IE into Windows will reduce innovation in the browser market"), and it is good to see a more modern browser succeed against the might of Redmond. It is now my browser of choice, and this site is optimised accordingly. So what is new? Just some gazetteer entries for: |
| January 2005 | Happy New Year everyone. With Christmas over what have we got for this month? Nothing much on the photographic side, but I have written a whole new in-house Electronic Greetings Card system, and have added a few simple games to the Freebies section. Hope you enjoy them. |
| December 2004 |
Better late than never; the Strolling Guides - Photography Shop has now re-opened for business. I have new ranges of Cards and Postcards, Calendars, Mugs and Mousemats, and I have now added a range of very nice Placemats and Coasters and some (rather expensive) little Jigsaws. New pages now up on Bamburgh Castle and Seahouses in Northumberland |
