News

Although I have got plenty of stuff in the pipeline, due to the fact that I am moving home, I have only had time to finish two places this month, both in Devon:

• Shute Barton and
• Loughwood Meeting House.

New this month are four more places in Somerset:

• Barrington Court,
• Muchulney, its Abbey, Church and Priest's House,
• Stoke-sub-Hamdon Priory and
• Ham Hill Country Park with its stone circle.

I have also completely rewritten my page on Athelhampton House in Dorset, and added a load of new photos.

Also in Dorset are a couple od new gazetteer entries:

• Holy Trinity Old Church, Bothenhampton and
• The Barnes Cross Postbox, one of the oldest in Britain.

New this month, two places in Sherborne in Dorset:

• Sherborne Castle (the new one) and
• Sherborne Abbey

A new page for the Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum next to the Swanage Railway's Norden station.

And a couple of places in Somerset

• Lytes Cary and
• The Treasurer's House in Martock.

Also a new walk from Edmondsham to Cranborne Castle in Dorset.

New for this month are two places in Wiltshire:

• Salisbury Cathedral, including brief details on the Close and Mompesson House, and
• Crofton Beam Engines.

And a long page on the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum near Singleton in Sussex

New this month, four places in Stockbridge area of Hampshire:

• Danebury Hill Fort,
• The peaceful Houghton Lodge Gardens,
• The Museum of Army Flying in nearby Middle Wallop and
• Mottisfont Abbey.

And three Lawrence of Arabia related pages in Dorset:

• His home, Clouds Hill near Bovington,
• Moreton where he is buried and which has an interesting church with engraved glass windows by Laurence Whistler, and
• St Martin on the Wall, the little Saxon church in Wareham that is now home to his effigy.

New this month:

• A page on Stonehenge in Wiltshire and its splendid new Visitor Centre. It also covers the Airmen's Cross and nearby Woodhenge.
• I've updated my Winspit and Worth Matravers stroll to include full turn by turn directions, sections on Winspit and Seacombe Quarries, and St Nicholas' Church, Worth Matravers.
• I've added two new pages on Corfe Castle in Dorset. One on the castle itself, and one on the railway station.
• Also a page on St John the Baptist Church, Bere Regis and its amazing roof.

New this month:

• Some photos of Badbury Rings in the snow we had this time last month,
• A very short entry on the Stops Hill Tunnel near Hindon in Wiltshire,
• A page on the Nothe Fort in Wemouth, Dorset, and
• Three short additions to the Breamore page on the Church, the Station and the Mill

New this month were short articles in Dorset on:

• The Old Lifeboat Station in Poole,
• The Fifehead Neville Packhorse Bridge,
• Tutton's Well in Mudeford and
• Poundbury Camp and the Roman Aquaduct outside Dorchester.

There are also some new entries in the New Forest for:

• St Mary's, Hale,
• East Boldre Village Hall,
• Leadenhall Bomb Target,
• RAF Lymington and
• The Control Tower at RAF Ibsley.

I have alse made some changes under the bonnet which, amongst other things, has allowed me to generate much more meaningful entries in the Subject Index.

• A page covering various places on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, including the Admiralty Incline, Chiswell Walled Garden, the HMS Illustrious Liberty Boat Memorial, the Merchants' Railway and Tom the Torpedo.
