Pronounced, and occasionally spelt, Chambura, the Kyambura Gorge is home to the only troupe of chimpanzees in the QENP area that have been habituated (that is to say, so used to seeing humans that they don't run away).
Guided treks start at 8:00 and 13:00, but judging by how close it was in the bottom of the valley on the 8 o'clock trip, the 1 o'clock one must be very challenging, to say the least.
We were very lucky as, having clambered down into the gorge and shimmied across the Kyambura River on a fallen tree, we almost immediately came upon the chimps high in the trees above us.
I think I took about forty shots of black blobs leaping around in the tree canopy, of which only two were usable, which increased my respect for professional wildlife photographers no end.
