Operated by West Coast Railways, the same people that run the Jabobite steam train on the West Highland Line, the Scarborough Spa Express leaves York mid-morning, runs down to pick up from Normanton, Wakefield and Castleford before looping back round to York.

Leaving York at lunchtime it then heads for the coast at Scarborough. At teatime it heads back to York, and then does the loop round South Yorkshire again.

We just did the York to Scarborough and back bit; a pleasant run across the flat land between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds.

Interestingly, I got the impression that most of the passengers were just enjoying a day out to the seaside on a direct service, rather than being hardened steam buffs.
