Looking Down the Pass
The Irish name, Bearnas na Diallaite, means 'Gap of the Saddle' (saddle in the topographical sense of 'mountain pass'). In English, Saddle Gap became corrupted to Sally Gap, hence the name.
Stictly speaking, Sally Gap is the name of the high crossroads a couple of miles north east of the Boleyhorrigan Bridge above Lough Tay (Loch Té) where these photos were taken, but it is all part of the same pass.
There are several car parks overlooking the lough, and the Wicklow Way passes nearby.
