If the crowds in Old Town Square get too much, head for the gap between the House of the Stone Bell (Dum U kamenného zvonu) and the Church of Our Lady Before Týn (Kostel Matky Boží pred Týnem).

This leads in through some delightful allies to the area known as Ungelt. This was once a fortified merchant courtyard and used to be the centre of international trade.

It was founded in the 11th century and was once surrounded by a ditch and a wall.

These days it is a pleasant quiet area with arty shops and an up market feel.
