It has to be said that my visit to the Keukenhof was sadly mistimed. The combination of the late spring and the generally overcast weather meant that it was not at its best. That said there was still plenty to see.
What started out soon after the second world war as an exhibition ground for the Dutch bulb industry held in the grounds of an old hunting lodge, has grown into the premier destination for all the Netherlands bulb tourists.
Part Kew Gardens, part Chelsea Flower Show and part sculpture park, the end result is a bit of a jumble. A pleasant enough jumble, admittedly, but confusing. It was smaller than I imagined it to be, as well.
Definitely one to go back to a bit later in the year.
