As the nights draw in, the National Trust's thoughts naturally turn towards ways to extend the season. And what better way than to take a leaf out of Blackpool's book and have a light show, in a very refined and middle-class way, of course.
The Enchanted Garden at Kingston Lacy is usually held each year towards the end of October and is increasingly popular (not to say uncomfortably overcrowded on certain nights).
The house and grounds look amazing, and the trees lit from below take on quite a different form. There is usually a living statue and there are fairies flitting through the trees (supplied by a local dance school). Good fun, but try to go mid-week.
